Ken Sly is Dimensional Graphics.

Ken has a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications and Film from San Diego State University. During college Ken joined the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees Union Local 16 in San Francisco and worked for the San Francisco Opera scenic shop during summer vacations. After graduation Ken returned to San Francisco and worked primarily with the S.F. Opera and S.F. Ballet as a scenic builder and stagehand. When Ken left the Opera in 1978 he was the scenic shop foreman. After a year of working for the American Conservatory Theater, building sets for TV commercials and conventions, Ken became the shop foreman for FM Productions.

FM Productions primary business was building touring sets for musical groups such as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Diamond and others. New ownership at FM expanded the field to corporate clients like IBM, Apple Computers, Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, Disney and Universal Studios. FM’s background in touring shows attracted special event projects like the 1984 Olympics, the Pope’s visit to San Francisco and the celebration following the Statue of Liberty’s renovation. FM gave Ken an opportunity to learn several new building disciplines and revived a high school interest in drafting. As projects got larger, scale construction drawings became a must. Ken eventually became the head of the Technical Design Department and worked closely with the different shops within FM. Hand drafting eventually led to computer aided drafting.

In 1993 Ken moved on to motion pictures scenic construction on movies such as Mrs. Doubtfire, Flubber, Jack, Getting Even with Dad and James and the Giant Peach. In that same year Ken started doing business as Dimensional Graphics. Dimensional Graphics’ primary function is to provide technical design and drafting services. As Dimensional Graphics, Ken has had the opportunity to technically design such projects as a 16’ mirror ball for a Pink Floyd tour, a pavilion for the 1996 Summer Olympics, an amusement park attraction for FOX studios in Australia and for Disney-Tokyo. Around the year 2000 Ken made the leap from 2D drafting to 3D modeling.

In 2003, Ken was hired by Rocket Science to technically design a touring museum exhibit based on a Monster Truck theme.  While at Rocket Science Ken also designed, constructed and installed motion based fixtures for a penthouse under construction in San Francisco. During the construction phase Ken learned to be a machinist which furthered his drafting skills relating to that field.

Ken still works through the IATSE and works for some of the local scenic shops in the San Francisco area, as a builder and/or draftsman, as well as operating independently as Dimensional Graphics.
