History

Ken Sly, the owner of Dimensional Graphics, has a long history of construction and the technical design of specialty theatrical scenery. Ken was the shop foreman for the San Francisco Opera and Technical Designer for FM Productions before he created Dimensional Graphics in 1993. All projects listed prior to 1993 were done while Ken was working for other employers. Below are some of the highlights of his career.

Penthouse Remodel, San Francisco CA, 2003
3D modeling, construction drawings, overseeing fabrication and installation of custom mechanical elements installed in a penthouse overlooking San Francisco. I was working for Rocket Science at the time.

Monster Truck, Touring Museum Exhibit, 2003
3D modeling, construction drawings and overseeing fabrication of touring museum units based on a Monster Truck theme. I was working for Rocket Science at the time.

Mars Exhibit, Denver Museum, Denver CO, 2002
3D modeling and assembly drawings for the construction of props to be used in a museum diorama.

Millennium Sculpture, Chicago IL, 2002
Several design concepts for structural framework to support a 60' x 45' x 30' tall stainless steel sculpture.

Broadway Theater, Disney, Tokyo, 2000
Concept and final design drawings based on a model constructed for the Floating Company. I also did rigging layouts for all of the flying scenery. Drawings were submitted to Disney who hired a scenic company to fabricate the set elements.

Sky Church, Experience Music Project, Seattle WA, 2000
Final design development from prior physical models made by Floating Company and Scientific Art Studios. Designs were supplied to multiple vendors who constructed and installed Sky Church.

Titanic Attraction, Fox Studios, Sydney Australia, 1998-1999
Assistant concept design for entire attraction. Fabrication drawings for two themed motion base units within the attraction. Provided drawings for the designer, the model shop and the fabricator.

General Motors Pavilion, Summer Olympics, Atlanta GA, 1996
Integration of computer-aided design and computer aided manufacturing technologies.

Technical design and fabrication drawings for 16' automated mirror ball.

U2 Zoo TV Outdoor Broadcast, 1992
Technical design and fabrication drawings for 24' high touring car lifts.

Plane Crazy and Mickey's Christmas Carol, Disneyland, 1991
Technical design and fabrication drawings for pneumatically operated traps and elevators.

Rolling Stones Steel Wheels Tour, 1989
Technical design and fabrication drawings for two portable elevators that traveled 80' in 15 seconds. Concept to delivery was 24 days.

Pink Floyd World Tour, 1987
Technical design and fabrication drawings for touring stage and mechanical fascia.

Liberty Weekend Celebration, 1986
Technical design and fabrication drawings for 40'x 60' self propelled rolling stage.

Coca-Cola Centennial, Atlanta GA, 1986
Technical design and fabrication drawings for 120' wide stage that featured an 18' diameter "bottle cap" that hydraulically opened, revolved and revealed a 16' diameter elevator.

Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony, Los Angeles, 1984
Technical design and fabrication drawings for hydraulically operated staircase used in torch lighting ceremony.

Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony, Los Angeles, 1984
Technical design and fabrication drawings for multi-tiered set. Setup time was 16 hours and set included an elevator.
